Question: Would you say that your job is very similar to that of a microbiologist?

Not really, but I have worked alongside microbiologists and hope to do so in the future.
I would say a microbiologist focuses on understanding how microbes work and how they interact with humans and other animals.
In my field of work, we (my colleagues, not me) mostly use bacteria and viruses to genetically engineer cells. That’s more the work of a molecular biologist, although a microbiologist could do this as well.
