I was really interested in diseases and how the human body worked. I found biology really interesting at school and when I finished my A-levels, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, so just carried on doing what I enjoyed!

At first I followed my heart and what I was interested in. I think that’s an important piece of advice for any area or profession you decide to go into.
After choosing mainly science and maths as A levels it was biology which really stood out for me as I love to know how things work. Biology (which has evolved over millions and millions of years) is so intricate, it’s fascinating, and we still don’t understand many parts of biology.
I decided to go to study medicine at University, and after a few years working as a doctor, my interest in research drove me to look at how I can be more involved in research. Because biology is so still not completely understood, research is a way of discovering things which aren’t yet known and therefore may help us treat human diseases better in the future.
Therefore, my inspiration was the opportunity to discover new things!

I think I’ve always liked the image of the scientist experimenting in a lab, and I wanted to help cure diseases. I also had relatives who were scientists. And then I had some science teachers who were really inspiring, I think they were so passionate about science that I thought “well, this must really be interesting!”.
As Ben and Elizabeth said, I wanted to do something that I enjoyed learning about.
