Hey! Cool question, Alex. Inflammation is one of the body’s responses to infection or damage. It basically means ‘swelling’. You know when you get a cut or a bruise and the skin goes red and sore and puffy? That’s because the body is trying to get rid of any infectious things (pathogens), clear out dead or dying cells and start the process of tissue repair. Damaged cells release SOS signals which attract immune cells like white blood cells. They start the process of inflammation and repair.
