      So, our INNATE immune system (not the B or T cells) is great at dealing with many infections very quickly. But if the infection doesn’t get under control, the ADAPTIVE immune system kicks into place. This is able to produce molecules which are very specific against the invading microbes and therefore can help to control the infection.
