This is actually a complicated question to answer!
We have several labs (for biology, for chemistry, for imaging, for working with animals, for engineering…) that we share between research groups, depending on what we need.

In my small team we are 7, including my boss (the others are PhD students). We will have a few more students coming to do short projects over the summer.
But we are part of a larger group that has about 40 people, and that group is part of a department that has about 300 people working.
When I’m in the chemistry lab there are usually 5-6 other people working in the room at the same time.
