Bone marrow is like a factory which produces all the different types of blood cells we know, including red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. In the bone marrow there are some cells which can turn into any other type of cell, and these are known as stem cells (haematopoeitic stem cells actually – which are stem cells which can turn into any type of blood cells). Depending on the biological signals that the stem cells get, they can turn into any of the cells we find in blood. You can see a nice picture of it here: https://www.intechopen.com/books/blood-cell-an-overview-of-studies-in-hematology/pluripotent-stem-cells-in-bone-marrow-and-cord-blood
