Scientists do travel quite a lot, it’s one of the perks of the job! Last year I went to Madrid in June to present some of my work to an international conference. Although we were there primarily for work, we were still able to let our hair down and enjoy the city. It was fun!

I don’t need to travel, but I do travel quite a lot and that’s a great aspect of the job. Last year I went to Germany and to the USA to present my work at conferences. This year I will be going to Turkey. I always manage to take a few extra days off to visit around, especially if I’ve never been before.

It depends a bit on your career level, from what I’ve seen the professors and people who work in industry tend to travel more often.

Yes, travel is definitely the best perk of the job! As part of my research, i spent time working in collaborator labs in Germany and Denmark, which was a great experience. You then get to go to scientific conferences all over the world to present your work and hear about other work in the field. The best one I went to was in a ski resort in Utah!
