  Yes, this does sometime happen. If a patient has a problem we can usually diagnose it, but sometimes it is difficult to diagnose, either becuase the tests come back negative, or the disease might be very rare and the doctors may have never seen it before. For instance, lupus (a disease of the immune system) can take years to diagnose!
