• Question: What made you choose a job in STEM?

      I never knew what STEM meant until very recently! I definitely didn’t know what it was when I was younger. I didn’t really choose a job, in STEM, I just chose subjects which I enjoyed, all throughout my time studying. The subjects I enjoy just so happen to be science and maths.

      I think I wanted to discover or invent things to improve people’s lives, so science was the way to go.

      I wouldn’t say I choose a job in STEM, I just enjoyed certain topic more than others in school. When in school I thought I wanted to become a doctor, so was looking into careers in medicine but found I didn’t like it. I much preferred the research side of things. Even then I have worked in various fields, from viruses to muscle and ageing, food and also pharmaceuticals. So there are multiple areas of STEM you can go into
