Cool question! Antibiotics kill bacteria. They do it in lots of ways, maybe by stopping the bacteria from growing or making them explode.

Taking too many antibiotics can upset your digestive system because your intestines are normally full of lots of friendly bacteria which help digest your food. Not only that, but if too many people use antibiotics too often then bacteria can evolve to be resistant. We need to use more and more antibiotics to have the same effect, until eventually they won’t work at all. Not good news!
