As my role as a scientist in a pharmaceutical company means I test a number of potential new drugs Thousands of drugs can be screened, a handful of those go on to more in depth testing. Bringing a new drug to market takes over 10 years of work before it can be sold to the public. Therefore as I am quite early on in my career, I currently haven’t brought a drug to market but you never know one of the drugs I am currently may be the next new drug
I’m the same as Sian! I used to work in a lab with a machine that tested thousands of drugs against a target to see if they could potentially be a new drug. I’m not sure if any of them made it to the clinic, but I like to think they did! The drug development process takes a long time and often, as a scientist, you only play a small part in the process, but every little makes a difference.
